Neighborhood streets in Japan have no names. Really.
In our small Japanese neighborhood, you simply ask, “Do you live on the mountain side or the sea side?”
Our town is tucked in between rolling mountains to the north and the Seto Inland Sea to the south. Land is limited. Homes sit next to busy family workshops. Narrow streets wind up the mountain.
Not much planning or zoning went into the creation of this town, I mean, after all, it has evolved over thousands of years. Right?
Viewed from above you can see a haphazard patchwork of century old homes, modern two story houses, shiny brand new garages, aging wooden structures and yes, the ubiquitous convenience store.
